Song des Tages: Frightened Rabbit – „No Real Life“

Nachdem Frightened Rabbit im September vergangenen Jahres ihrem 2016 erschienenen letzten Album „Painting Of A Panic Attack“ mit „Recorded Songs“ noch eine EP mit drei neuen Stücken nachschoben (unter anderem, mit „How It Gets In„, ein tolles Duett zwischen Scott Hutchison und Julien Baker), legte das Indierock-Quintett aus dem schottischen Glasgow im Dezember 2017 noch ein letztes Mal nach und veröffentlichte mit „No Real Life“ einen Song, in dessen beigelegter Twitter-Nachricht die Band ihre Fans dazu aufrief, für die schottische Alzheimer-Stiftung zu spenden: „With your help, their aim is to make sure that nobody in this country faces dementia alone.“

Auch thematisch beschäftigt sich „No Real Life“ anhand von Textzeilen wie „There’s a hole at the back of the wardrobe / There’s another at the base of my brain“ mit der traumatischen Erfahrung, Stück für Stück all seine Erinnerungen zu verlieren, während der Song mit einer dezenten Akustikgitarre beginnt und sich langsam aber sicher – mit allerlei Band-Feedback und Streichern – majestätisch steigert. Ein gut vierminütiger Schwanengesang von und für Scott Hutchison und Frightened Rabbit, wie er kaum besser gewählt sein könnte: melancholisch, traurigen Herzens, kämpferisch, groß.

Song des Tages: Julien Baker – „Appointments“

Die aktuell weltbeste Sadcore-Singer/Songwriterin kommt aus Memphis, Tennessee und hört auf den Namen Julien Rose Baker. Isso. Wer etwas anderes behauptet, der pfeift in seiner kargen Geschmacksfreizeit wohl immer noch „Despacito“. Oder hat deren Debütalbum „Sprained Ankle“ noch nicht gehört…

Da die Veröffentlichung ebenjenes Albums bereits knappe zwei Jahre zurückliegt, wird es nun langsam aber sicher Zeit für neue Trauerkloß-Songs der erst zarte 21 Lenze jungen Musikerin. Und genau deshalb erscheint am 27. Oktober mit „Turn Out The Lights“ der Nachfolger zu „Sprained Ankle“.

Einen ersten Vorboten vom neuen Album veröffentlichte Julien Baker mit dem gewohnt wunderschönen „Appointments“ bereits im August im Stream, und reicht nun das dazugehörige Musikvideo nach. Der Clip zeigt die Singer/Songwriterin zunächst auf dem Boden liegend in einem Haus, dann in einem Café und am Ende an einem See. Begleitet wird sie dabei von Tänzerinnen, die nicht von ihrer Seite weichen.

Und wäre das noch nicht genug, so hat Baker jüngst ein Duett mit Frightened Rabbit aufgenommen: Im Song „How It Gets In„, welches die schottische Band am gestrigen Freitag als einen von insgesamt drei Teilen der „Recorded Songs EP“ veröffentlicht hat, hört man die US-Musiskerin an der Seite von Angsthasen-Frontmann Scott Hutchison.
