„Stay positive!“ – The Hold Steady verschenken formidable Live-Mitschnitte

Das letzte letzte (sechste) Studioalbum „Teeth Dreams“ mag zwar bereits gute vier Jahre alt sein, untätig waren The Hold Steady in der Zwischenzeit allerdings kaum.

Denn wenn die US-Alternative-Heartland-Rocker nicht gerade kreuz und quer durch die heimatlichen Vereinigten Staaten getourt sind, hat das seit jeher hörbar an Bruce Springsteens Kumpelgeste geschulte Sechsergespann aus Brooklyn, New York in den vergangenen Monaten mit der ein oder anderen Single-Veröffentlichung (welche zusammen genommen wohl auch eine EP hergeben würden) oder den Reissues älterer Diskografie-Glanzlichter auf sich aufmerksam gemacht. Und darüber hinaus haben Frontmann Craig Finn und (Wieder-)Keyboarder Franz Nicolay ja noch immer Solo-Karrieren am Laufen (Finn etwa stellte im März 2017 sein drittes Soloalbum „We All Want The Same Things“ in die lokalen wie digitalen Plattenläden)… Ganz klare Sache: faule Tage auf der heimischen Couch sehen anders aus.

Und da Weihnachten naht und auch Craig Finn (Gesang, Gitarre), Tad Kubler (Gitarre), Galen Polivka (Bass), Bobby Drake (Schlagzeug), Franz Nicolay (Keyboard) und Steve Selvidge (Gitarre) wissen, dass Geben immer noch glücklicher macht als Nehmen, verschenken The Hold Steady aktuell via Bandcamp zwei Mitschnitte ihrer Live-Shows aus den vergangenen Jahren: einen Auftritt in der Thalia Hall in Chicago, Illinois im Juni 2017 sowie einen im Union Transfer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania im Juli 2018. Wer zugreifen mag, sollte wohl allerdings schnell sein, denn die Band erwähnt, dass diese großzügige „Pay what you want“-Geste zunächst lediglich für „a limited time“ gilt… 🤟

 

„We’ve had a blast throughout 2018 doing these long weekends of shows – our first shows in London since 2014, Constructive Summer in Philly/NJ, San Francisco and Toronto; extended Constructive Summer with some beer fests in Chicago and Minneapolis; and, of course, finishing up last weekend at Brooklyn Bowl in New York for Massive Nights III.

Whether you realize it or not, we’re recording these shows so we can share the memories with you. (…) Enjoy reliving it!

„Chicago has always had a special place in our hearts, it’s been the site of some incredibly memorable THS shows: the live recordings at Metro on the Art Brut Tour, Randolph Street Block Party, Hideout Block Party, our first show ever with Bobby Drake at Schubas, and most recently the Goose Island Fest. So we were excited to be at Thalia Hall June 2017 to kick off a big Chicago weekend. We also had a few tricks up our sleeves: some special Chicago guests for a Chicago encore, and a marriage proposal between two of our long time fans. Chicago (especially in the summer) is a one of my favorite places to play, and this show got a great weekend off on the right foot. – CF“
