Song des Tages: Bad Religion – „Faith Alone 2020“

Die US-Punkrock-Legenden Bad Religion haben eine überarbeitete Version von „Faith Alone“ namens „Faith Alone 2020“ veröffentlicht. Der Song stammt ursprünglich von ihrem 1990 erschienenen Album „Against The Grain“ und ist in seiner neuen Form zunächst auf Sänger Greg Graffin und sein Klavier reduziert. Später kommen Streicher und weitere orchestrale Elemente sowie das Schlagzeug von Jamie Miller ins Spiel. Graffin, der selbiges Stück vor nicht allzu langer Zeit bereits solo in einer Akusik-Variante aufnahm, schreibt die meisten seiner Songs seit jeher am Klavier – „einige unserer frühesten Songs wurden auf dem Piano meiner Mutter geschrieben“, verrät der 55-jährige Frontmann in einem Statement. Da er, wie so viele seiner Kollegen, ungewohnt viel Zeit Zuhause verbringt, nahm er den Song erneut auf, nachdem Kollege Brett Gurewitz ihn darauf hinwies, wie relevant dessen Text weiterhin sei. Gitarrist Gurewitz kommentiert: „Ich glaube, die Botschaft von ‚Faith Alone‘ passt zu allem, was gerade passiert: rassistisch begründete Ungerechtigkeit, Trump, die Covid-Pandemie, die Ablehnung von Wissenschaft. Keines dieser Dinge kann gelöst werden, wenn wir unsere Köpfe im Sand verbuddeln. Wir waren immer der Überzeugung, dass Probleme mit Verstand und Taten gelöst werden, nicht durch Glauben und Beten. Darüber schreiben wir, seit wir diese Band gegründet haben.“

Die mittlerweile seit stolzen vier Jahrzehnten bestehende Band aus Los Angeles hatte im vergangenen Jahr ihr aktuelles, siebzehntes Album „Age Of Unreason“ herausgebracht. Am 18. August erscheint mit „Die Bad Religion Story: Do What You Want“ die – ob dieser langen Historie wohl ebenso interessante wie überfällige – Autobiografie von und über Graffin, Gurewitz und Co.
