Song des Tages: Blackberry Smoke & Amanda Shires – „You Got Lucky“

Die Southern-Roots-Rocker von Blackberry Smoke nehmen sich – mit freundlicher Unterstützung von Amanda Shires an der Fiddle sowie am Co-Gesang – den Tom-Petty-Song „You Got Lucky“ vor, der unter der Behandlung der Band aus dem US-amerikanischen Atlanta, Georgia zur (in Nuancen) keltisch angehauchten Akustik-Nummer gerät.

Das Original erschien 1982 auf dem Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers-Album „Long After Dark“ (und klingt leider – unter Einsatz von Synthies und Co. – sehr nach dem unseligen Jahrzehnt seiner Entstehung). Der Tribute-Song an Tom Petty, der am gestrigen 20. Oktober seinen 68. Geburtstag gefeiert hätte, am 2. Oktober 2017 jedoch – viel zu früh und unerwartet – verstarb, wird Teil der in den kommenden Tagen erscheinenden „The Southern Ground Sessions EP“ von Blackberry Smoke sein. Feine Version in jedem Fall (übrigens ebenso wie die, die Petal und Kevin Devine kürzlich für No. 9 von Devines „Devinyl Splits“-Reihe aufgenommen haben)…

Song des Tages: Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit – „If We Were Vampires“

Jason Isbell, singer/songwritender Southern-Rock-Experte vom Dienst, hat den neuen Song „If We Were Vampires“ veröffentlicht. Dieser ist eine wehmütig-melancholische Akustik-Ballade mit Gitarrenbegleitung, bei dem Isbell mit der Sängerin Amanda Shires über die Vergänglichkeit menschlicher Beziehungen singt, die spätestens mit dem Tod enden: „Maybe we’ll get 40 years together / But one day I’ll be gone / Or one day you’ll be gone.“

Das Stück gehört zum kommenden, sechsten Album „The Nashville Sound„, das der ehemalige Drive-By Truckers-Gitarrist, der seit 2011 auch im Country-Rock-Mekka, das der neuen Platte ihren Namen gab, beheimatet ist, mit seiner jetzigen (Begleit)Band The 400 Unit am 16. Juni via Southeastern veröffentlicht. Bisher waren bereits die Songs „Hope The High Road“ und „Cumberland Gap“ erschienen.
