Song des Tages: Two Door Cinema Club – „What You Know“

Two Door Cinema Club… Two Door Cinema Club… Two Door Cinema Club… Da war doch mal irgendwas…

Richtig. Um das Jahr 2010 herum wurden Alex Trimble (Gesang, Gitarre, Synthesizer und Beats), Sam Halliday (Gitarre) und Kevin Baird (Bass) mit so einigen artverwandten Bands wie The Maccabees, Bombay Bicycle Club, Klaxons, Phoenix, Hot Chip, The Bravery oder The Wombats an die Spitzen der musikalischen „Heißer Scheiß, Mann!“-Listen gesetzt, von der renommierten BBC etwa in ihre „Sound of 2010“-Prognose aufgenommen, während das kaum weniger namenträchtige Glastonbury-Festival das nordirische Trio in sein Line-Up aufnahm.

Doch wie sollte es anders sein, erscheinen Two Door Cinema Club – ebenso wie nicht wenige weitere der oben erwähnten Bands – knapp eine Dekade später unter „Klar, gibt’s noch, aber eher unter ‚Ferner liefen’…“. Dafür konnte der meist geschickt zwischen juvenilen Indierock und durchaus tanzbarem Electropop changierende, ewiglich very british drein schauende Babyface-Dreier dem 2010er Debütalbum „Tourist History“ mit den 2012 beziehungsweise 2016 veröffentlichten Nachfolgewerken „Beacon“ und „Gameshow“ einfach zu wenig prägnante Indie-Hits (geschweige denn in Gänze überzeugende Alben) zur Seite stellen…

Das trifft jedoch keinesfalls auf „What You Know“ (von „Tourist History“) zu. Dieser Song geht auch heute, acht Jahre später, noch bestens verankert in die Gehörgänge, während für mindestens einen Fuß strengster Mitwippbefehl besteht…

 

 

Dass Trimble, Halliday und Baird nicht mehr ganz so krasse Babyfaces wie noch vor wenigen Jahren sind, zeigt etwa eine Live-Session-Version des Songs, welche das Indiepop-Trio 2016 bei KCRW zum Besten gab:
