Damals, in den Siebzigern, war Stevie Nicks so etwas wie das weibliche Rock-Business-Pendant zu Robert Plant: wunderschön und berühmt, unnahbar und irgendwie nicht von dieser Welt der Normalsterblichen, dazu noch gesegnet mit der besonderen, unverkennbaren Stimme eines Engels – ein weibliches, in Rockmusik gegossenes Sexsymbol, wenn man so mag. Dazu kamen freilich noch die Geschichten um all die internen Amourösitäten und Streitereien, die ihre Band Fleetwood Mac und Alben wie „Rumours“ oder „Tusk“ seit jeher so besonders, so interessant mach(t)en.
Mittlerweile ist es etwas ruhiger um Fleetwood Mac (deren Mitbegründer Peter Green in diesem Jahr verstarb) und die Grande Dame der Rockmusik geworden – kein Wunder, immerhin ist Stephanie Lynn „Stevie“ Nicks, die als erste (und bis dato einzige) Frau zweimal in der Rock’n’Roll Hall Of Fame vertreten ist, bereits 72 Jahre jung. Umso schöner ist es daher, ihre Stimme ab und an mal wieder hören zu können, etwa vor sieben Jahren, als Nicks dem feinen Song „You Can’t Fix This„, welcher auf dem Soundtrack für Dave Grohls (nach wie vor absolut sehenswertem) Doku-Film „Sound City“ erschien, ihre unnachahmliche Stimme lieh.
Passenderweise ist es nun auch Foo Fighters-Tausendsassa Dave Grohl, der Stevie Nicks auf ihrer ersten Single seit neun Jahren und der ersten Veröffentlichung seit dem 2014 erschienenen „24 Karat Gold: Songs From The Vault
Und irgendwie könnte es – im Angesicht eines rassischstischen Medienclowns im Weißen Haus, den nahenden US-Präsidentschaftswahlen, Corona, #MeToo und der „Black Lives Matter“-Bewegung – kaum einen passenderen Zeitpunkt für einen durchaus politischen, jedoch positiv gestimmten Song wie „Show Them The Way“ geben. In einem Interview mit Associated Press erklärte Nicks, dass das gut sechsminütige Stück auf einem Traum aus dem Jahr 2008 basiert. Darin spielt sie auf einer politischen Benefizveranstaltung, die von Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., John Lennon, John Lewis, John F. Kennedy und Bobby Kennedy besucht wird.
