Song des Tages: Dawes – „Things Happen“

Manchmal sind die einfachsten Sätze auch gleichzeitig die wahrsten…

So etwa die Zeile „Things happen, that’s all they ever do“ aus – jawoll! – „Things Happen“, der Eröffnungsnummer von „All Your Favorite Bands„, dem vierten Album der aus Los Angeles stammenden Americana-Folkrocker Dawes. Falls dem einen oder der anderen der Name nichts sagt – keine Sorge.

Denn trotz bislang sechs gemeinsamen Bandjahren, drei auch von Kritikern stets recht gut aufgenommenen Alben und gemeinsamen Tourneen mit unter anderem Blitzen Trapper liefen die Dawes bislang immer unter dem Radar durch – da konnten auch der Fakt, dass der Vierer Conor „Bright Eyes“ Oberst bei dessen letztem, im vergangenen Jahr erschienenen Album „Upside Down Mountain“ als Backing-Band unterstützte oder Dawes-Frontmann Taylor Goldsmith als Teil von The New Basement Tapes an der Seite von Elvis Costello, Marcus Mumford (Mumford & Sons) oder Jim James (My Morning Jacket) kürzlich noch unveröffentlichte Bob-Dylan-Songs neu interpretiert hat etwas ändern. Vielleicht ist dieser Americana-Sound, der mal nach Laurel Canyon, mal nach Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, insgesamt nach viel analogen Siebzigern klingt, auch einfach zu uramerikanisch fürs Gros der aufgeklärten, abgeklärten europäischen Ohren? Wer weiß…

Nichtsdestotrotz hält auch das neuste, im Juni erschienene Dawes-Werk mit besagtem „Things Happen“ oder dem zu Tränen rührend schönen Titelstück „All Your Favorite Bands“ mindestens zwei weitere großartige Songs bereit, die gehört werden sollten. Eben weil die einfachsten Sätze oft die wahrsten sind…
