„Tree Machines is an indie pop-rock duo from Lawrence, KS. Birthed in the year of our Lord, 2014, from the ashes of their old band, Sobriquet, Douglas Wooldridge and Patrick Aubry have honed the ability to create melodies that stick in one’s head like a friendly smile, lyrics that speak to the generations wandering helplessly through this seemingly meaningless world, and rhythms that undulate in time and space like trees in a windstorm. Wer sich derart wortschwallig auf Facebook selbst beschreibt, der hat entweder a) eine blühende Fantasie, b) zu viel Langeweile oder c) sonst nichts zu sagen. Die letzteren beiden Punkte dürften wohl kaum für Douglas Shawn Wooldridge und Patrick David Aubry gelten, war das Duo doch in der vergangenen Zeit vor allem damit beschäftigt, ihren Musikbiz-Einstand – die selbstbetitelte erste EP als Tree Machines, die Ende März erscheinen wird – fertig zu stellen. Einen ersten Höreindruck kann man sich nun anhand der galant betitelten Single „Fucking Off Today“ verschaffen, die in etwa klingt, als hätten die Alaska-Alternativerrocker von Portugal. The Man einen besonders miesepetrigen Tag erwischt. Meint: energisch hochpitchte Strophen mit dezent hohem Gesangstil, bevor die Gitarren zu Refrain ausholen und loslegen, als gelte es, den PostRock-Tempel im Sturm zu nehmen – da passt schon wieder, dass Tree Machines die PostRock-Texaner von Explosions In The Sky – neben Wilco, LCD Soundsystem, Radiohead oder St. Vincent – offen zu ihren Einflüssen zählen… Man darf also auf die kommende EP mit weiteren Songs gespannt sein.
